The City of Vandalia dealt with a city-wide boil order last week for the cleaning of the water tower in the Vandalia Country Club area. During Monday night’s Vandalia City Council meeting, Ward One Alderman and Water and Sewer Committee Chairman Jerry Swarm told the City Council they believe this is the first time that particular water tower had ever been cleaned and it was built in 1933. Swarm said there was 3 feet of sediment in some places inside the tower. Swarm said Water Department Superintendent Marty Husky was in touch with the EPA thru the process with the precautionary boil order and when it was lifted on Friday.
In other business at Monday night’s Vandalia City Council meeting, Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman says he met with a developer last week about moving into the Agricel building and they would be meeting again this week with that developer. Mayor Gottman also says his City Beautification Team has been meeting and they will soon be presenting ideas to the City Council. Mayor Gottman formed the committee to look at ways to help beautify the community.
