Peggy Dees, 94, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015, in her home.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 06, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, with Rev. Louis Frick officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, August 05, 2015, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia and 1 hr. before service Thursday, at the Church. Memorials: First United Methodist Church and/or Fayette County Hospice, both of Vandalia, IL. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, is in charge of arrangements. Peggy was born February 20, 1921, in Greenville, IL, the daughter of Ernie & Clara (Wasmuth) Streiff. She married Joe Dees June 22, 1945 in Greenville, IL and were happily married for 54 years. Joe preceded her in death in 1999. Peggy was a former teacher and homemaker and active member of the community. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Vandalia Women’s Club and Beta Sigma Phi, all of Vandalia, IL. She also served on the Shagbark Girl Scout Council for many years and regularly volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at the local hospital.
Peggy’s husband, Joe, often referred to her as “my little, fiery red head” yet with a “sweet and vivacious nature.” She was known by those in the community as a “real lady”, genuine, kind and generous. Her family remembers her as a loving and caring mother and grandmother, who was always up for an adventure. She was quick to laugh and had a ready sense of humor. Loved the St. Louis Cardinals and was an avid golfer and birder. She was a loyal and steadfast friend and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by: Daughters and son-in-laws – Nancy & George Wood, Port Angeles, WA, Debbie & Peter Cadigan, Eugene, OR and Martha & Ron Bateman, Fort Collins, CO; 14 Grandchildren; Erin, Josh, Jacob, Mandy, Katie, Kelly, Jenny, Danny, Ted, Wendy, Michelle, Michael, Katie and Christy; 14 Great Grandchildren; and Several Nephews & Nieces.
Preceded in death by: Her Parents, Husband and Brother – Ned Streiff.
