Charles William ‘Bill’ Jones, 78, of Altamont, died at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, Altamont with Rev. Willie Deuel and Rev. Lisa Guilliams officiating. Burial will follow at the Sandy Branch Cemetery, Kinmundy. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at the church. Memorials are requested to be made to the Effingham County Fair, First United Methodist Church both of Altamont or the donors’ choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bill was born on Wednesday, July 14, 1937 in Kinmundy, IL to Lewis and Nell (Walker) Jones. He married Mary Feather on September 15, 1956 and she preceded him in death on July 12, 1990. He then married Janice (Powell) Sager on August 4, 1991. Bill was president of the Farina State Bank before he retired. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Altamont where he served in various capacities. He was currently serving his third term on the Altamont City Council as commissioner of the Street and Alley Department and currently the Treasurer of the Effingham County Fair Board. Prior to moving to Altamont he had served on the Kinmundy Volunteer Fire Department as chief, served as President of the Kinmundy-Alma School Board, Board member of the Kinmundy United Methodist Church, Kinmundy Cemetery Board and had belonged to the Kinmundy Masonic Lodge and Lions Club and had been a Little League Coach. In the past he had been honored with the award of Kinmundy Citizen of the Year. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
