The Family YMCA of Fayette County will see a change in leadership in the near future as current CEO John Ashdown informed the YMCA’s Board of Directors of his resignation that will be effective on Friday, July 24. Ashdown has served as CEO of the YMCA for the past 6 years, overseeing the move of the Y from downtown Vandalia to its current home on Rock Island Avenue. In a release, Ashdown talks of his time stating “When I took this job 6 years ago, I felt it was a calling, and I have been blessed with six of the most rewarding years of my life.” The Y’s Board of Directors has named current Health & Wellness Director Ben Frazier to serve as interim CEO following Ashdown’s departure. The board will now begin the process of searching for the next CEO and speaking of the process, YMCA Board President Rick Myers says, “the Board intends to move quickly through this process. However, we will take as much time as necessary to find the right leader who fits our organization and community, and who can continue to move our Y forward.” Ashdown will assist Frazier in the transition process and YMCA Board Vice-President Jim Pryor will lead a Transition Committee.
